Intercession to Intercede
Many times, we all have found ourselves in situation that weighed us down so much that it cut off our life line, which is our prayer life. When my dad passed away I could not pray because I was hurt and so angry with God (yes, I said angry with God). I just did not understand why He did not hear my cries and prayers to keep my dad alive, and if God did hear me, why didn’t He spare my dad’s life. I figured my prayers did not work for something as important as that so, why continue to pray? That was a huge deal and my prayers did not avail, so I decided to stop praying.
In that time, of course, I was not communicating with God through my mouth. I had completely shut down. This was a very pivotal moment for me regarding intercession. We all have had people tell us that they are praying for us, and we simply say, “thank you.” We do not fully take into consideration what that prayer and person is doing for us. We do not truly understand the intercession that takes place. I had so many people telling me that they were praying for me and my family. Some just were saying it out of religion and really was not praying, but some really were praying on my behalf; they really were interceding.
Some of you may ask, “What is intercession?” Well, I’m glad you asked! “Intercession” or “to intercede” meant to intervene on behalf of another person, or the act of sating a prayer on behalf of another person. One night, while teaching on prayer and intercession, one of my spiritual brothers simply said, “Intercession is standing in the gap of a person and their situation” He then went on to show a demonstration on two chairs next two each other. One chair symbolizing the person and the other chair symbolizing their situation. He then pushed his way through the two and my spirit quickened! Something that simple meant so much, it gave me a light bulb moment! I get it! See, intercession is a big responsibility for someone to take on, especially on behalf of someone else. Just imagine a person carrying a heavy bag with all types of stuff in it. Then a person comes out of nowhere to assist them with the bag. It makes the bag lighter and alleviates the weight, lightens the burden. This, my friends, is intercession at its best. My father’s passing put me in a place where the burden was too heavy to carry by myself and I am so thankful for the people who obeyed God’s voice to stand in the gap for me! When I could not pray, God sent warriors to pray for me. They could tap into my heart’s cry and articulate and cry out to God for me. How amazing is that? What an anointing to have!
I believe in this hour, God is calling us to stand in the gap. He is getting the attention of anyone who is willing to pray on behalf of His heart’s cry. When God’s people pray, things began to shift. We begin to change atmospheres and break strongholds. We free people from heavy burdens. We set captives free In Ezekiel 22:30 it says, “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.” God could not find anyone that could stand in the gap and I believe He is searching for someone NOW! Are you willing to take on the burden of a nation? Are you willing to cry out for people you don’t even know? Will you stand in the gap to set your family free? Many are called but few are chosen. Are you qualified to be chosen for such a task? We all yell, “God send me!” “Choose me!” “Use me!” …but when was the last time you spoke to God AND listened for Hi speak back? In this season, God is choosing a people who will submit to His will and agenda. Are you willing? Will you stand in the gap?
